APIM Tech Lead
I am currently resourcing an experienced Contract Tech Lead take charge of API Management (APIM) Platform. The platform is built on a robust API Façade pattern using Google Apigee as the core technology.
As the Tech Lead, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining our API platform. You will also play a key role in reviewing API designs to ensure they meet standards and governance requirements. In this role, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams to define API requirements, ensuring the platform remains scalable, secure, and future-proof.
The role is an initial 3 months, with a possible extension. For the most part it is remote with fortnightly travel to Leeds. The budget for this role is £500 per day, inside IR35.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the Technical Team: Provide leadership for the technical solutions related to API and Microservice architectures, with a focus on Apigee.
- Technical Reviews: Conduct regular technical reviews of solutions and applications to ensure adherence to best practices and standards.
- Adopt Best Practices: Implement and promote technical best practices and principles within API and Microservice development.
- Technology Exploration: Evaluate and select the appropriate technology stack for API and Microservice architectures.
- Collaboration: Work closely with development teams to oversee and guide technical work, ensuring alignment with project goals.
- Technical Governance: Manage technical tasks for projects, ensuring robust governance and adherence to technical standards.
- Hands-On Leadership: Actively engage with the technical stack, leading the team in building technical capabilities.
- Test Automation: Develop and implement automated tests and strategies, selecting the right tools and frameworks for the task.
Required Experience and Skills:
- Apigee Expertise: Proven experience in the design, implementation, and operation of Apigee in a technical lead role.
- Cloud-Native Design: Experience working with architects to design cloud-native systems, preferably on AWS, but experience with any public cloud is valuable.
- CI/CD Systems: Expertise in building CI/CD systems optimized for development velocity, security, and reliability.
- Subject Matter Expertise: Ability to collaborate with product teams to build and monitor cloud-native applications.
- Platform & DevOps Engineering: Experience as a Platform, DevOps, or Site Reliability Engineer, with a strong understanding of secure software development practices.
- Infrastructure as Code: Proficiency with Terraform and other Infrastructure as Code tools, along with GitHub Actions and Azure DevOps.
- Observability Tools: Familiarity with observability tooling and strategies.
- Programming: Competency in any programming language, with a preference for Python or JavaScript.
- Software Engineering Background: Previous experience as a software engineer in a product-oriented team is a plus.
- Platform Engineering Advocacy: Passion for evangelizing platform engineering practices and principles.
- Force Multiplication: Understanding of how to enhance the effectiveness of DevOps/Platform teams.
