Job Description



My client based near Stockport are looking for a BI Specialist for a 2 year FTC to identify business intelligence, reporting and data analysis requirements for UK Biobank. The Power BI Specialist will design, build and deploy business intelligence reports and dashboards using Microsoft Power BI. Salary is up to £50K.


PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Identify business intelligence, reporting and data analysis needs.
  2. Design, build and deploy business intelligence reports and dashboards using Microsoft Power BI.
  3. Oversee projects ensuring BI solutions meet business needs and requirements.
  4. Stay abreast of BI products/tools and of business strategies to support best strategic use of BI across the organisation
  5. Train and educate cross-functional team members and management to use the data as an analytical tool.
  6. Perform analysis for a wide range of requests using data in different formats and from various platforms.
  7. Ad hoc duties as directed


ESSENTIAL CRITERIA

  1. B.Sc. degree in Informatics, Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Science or related field.
  2. A minimum of 5 years' experience in a business intelligence role.
  3. A minimum of 3 years' experience using Power BI, MDX and DAX.
  4. Ability to quickly stage and shape data from various data sources into reporting and analytics solutions.
  5. The ability to influence stakeholders and work closely with them to determine acceptable solutions.
  6. Exceptional analytical, conceptual thinking and problem solving abilities.
  7. Proficient in the full software development lifecycle.
  8. Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with key stakeholders.
  9. Ability to communicate both written and orally, clearly and persuasively, explaining complicated matters simply, tailoring delivery methods/media to suit the audience's needs and understanding.
  10. Ability to clarify, plan and prioritise own work and that of the others in order to achieve objectives.
  11. Ability to work proactively in order to ensure objectives are met in a timely manner.
  12. Must be self-motivated with a strong work ethic.
  13. Must take pride in own work, setting and achieving high standards for self and working with others.
  14. Ability to analyse complex problems and propose solutions while satisfying any constraints imposed by the business i.e. resource or time.
  15. Ability to consider risks, wider impact of decisions, assessing possible outcomes and their likelihood.
  16. Ability to challenge decisions and proposals appropriately to ensure solutions are robust.
  17. Demonstrated experience of best practices for organizing, managing and reporting on data.
  18. Experience creating detailed reports and giving presentations to users and executive management.


DESIRABLE CRITERIA

  1. Knowledge/experience of standardized quality control pipelines for ensuring data quality, provenance and integrity.
  2. Experience utilising tools and systems on the MS SQL Server BI Stack, including SSRS and TSQL.
