Job Description

My client are looking for a Data Developer (who has worked in a medical/clinical environment) with the ability to work independently without direct supervision and be an adaptable and flexible team player. You must be good at problem solving, have an eye for detail, and can plan, organise, and prioritise work to meet deadlines.

*This role is fully remote, outside IR35, 6 months initially and paying up to £450 per day*

You will be responsible for developing and maintaining systems that update the Metadata Management System, automating these processes and expanding the Data Dictionaries to include new clinical coding editions or other coding requirements. You will investigate clinical coding issues in applications and develop processes that report issues proactively. You will work closely with the database, software development and analytics teams. You will take the lead in evaluating data standards, coding editions and implementation guides, both national and international. You will be familiar with at least 2 of the following coding systems:

Read Codes and Clinical Terms Versions 2 and 3


ICD10 and OPCS4


LOINC (Logical Observation Identifiers Names and Codes)

Required skills:

Experience of mapping between different clinical coding systems.

Degree in IT or mathematics related field or equivalent experience, with exposure to statistical computing

Experience of working with NHS/healthcare medical data.

Experience of any relational database management system.

Basic knowledge of DML in SQL programming.


Experience creating ETL (Extract, Transform and Load) processes.

Experience with data presentation models used on clinical trials e.g., CDISC (Clinical Data Interchange Standards Consortium) SDTM (Study Data Tabulation Model)

Experience with data standardisation models used in clinical data analytics e.g., OMOP (Observational Medical Outcomes Partnership) Common Data Model.

Basic knowledge of database modelling including referential integrity and DDL.

Experience using programming/scripting languages, e.g.: R, Python, Java, C++ etc

Understanding of clinical governance/data handling/safety monitoring and reporting

Experience working on Computer System Validation.
