Data Scientist
Our public sector client is looking for a Data Scientist to join their team to work with colleagues across the public sector to ensure the best techniques and technologies are leveraged to help solve a broad set of problems and analytical challenges, with a passion for describing the approaches and solutions to varying audiences.
Work will be focused in one or more of the following areas: providing actionable insights to assist policymakers, supporting the development of official statistics, improving the efficiency of the organisation, and building data science capability.
Skills and Experience
- Proficiency in Python and experience with the full data science and machine learning stack.
- Strong software engineering skills with a focus on building robust, production-ready systems and understanding of deploying and monitoring such systems in a cloud environment.
- Experience in using data science techniques (e.g. natural language processing, supervised and unsupervised machine learning, deep learning).
- Passion for building AI tools that can be used by others to deliver business outcomes.
- Experience using Google Cloud Platform with a focus on building data science tools utilising private infrastructure and controlled access.
- Experience using Generative AI with a focus on implementing the tool into software or tools that can be used by others.
- Knowledge of containerization (Docker), scripting languages (Bash), and the ability to set up CI/CD pipelines (e.g. with GitHub Actions).
- Experience using Infrastructure-as-code (Terraform) and experience with integrating modern microservices within legacy infrastructure.
Day to Day
Collaborate with cross-functional teams including researchers, product managers, and senior stakeholders to quickly understand customer needs and translate them into pragmatic technical solutions leveraging AI.
Rapidly prototype AI-powered features and iterate based on user feedback.
Optimize AI models and infrastructure for performance, scalability, and reliability.
Establish frameworks, tools, and processes to responsibly develop, deploy, and monitor AI systems.
Work closely with technology colleagues to understand infrastructure needs and bottlenecks.
Implement and maintain cloud infrastructure solutions in accordance with good practice.
Monitor and understand resource utilization, make recommendations, manage optimization and scaling to ensure resources are used efficiently and cost-effectively.
Leverage cloud computing microservices (e.g. Kubernetes, Terraform, Serverless computing).
