Job Description

Data Scientist

  • Permanent, Full-Time role
  • Hybrid working - 1 day onsite in Birmingham

This is an exciting opportunity to work for an established and growing data science team that has an exciting and successful future. We are working on critical national infrastructure within a government company.

The core function of the team is to identify opportunities and manage the delivery projects that maximise our ability to fully exploit the data we hold. You will also look for opportunities to encourage the use of data science across the company and help establish advocates for our work.

What you'll be leading on

  • Work across company and its wider stakeholders to understand where data science can add value.
  • Lead and direct a number of multidisciplinary data science projects manging resources to ensure delivery.
  • Be responsible for exploring and visualising the data to present the 'story' a meaningful way, and to a range of technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Evolve the array of data analysis tools and techniques
  • Propagate data science skills in other teams, understanding the variety of functional roles relating to data science and how they can be most effectively applied to solve business problems
  • Inform the data science strategy with input from other stakeholders

To be successful

  • You can create data science products which are proportionate to the business benefit and achieve significant impact. Present analysis and visualisations in clear ways to communicate complex messages.
  • You understand the evolution of data governance and the importance of the Data Science Ethical Framework in their business area.
  • You are a self-directed learner and share your knowledge with other data scientists.
  • You have experience of developing, coding, testing, correcting and documenting simple programmes or scripts under the direction of others as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • You can work with Data Engineers to map, produce, transform, and test new data feeds for data owners and consumers, selecting the most appropriate tools and technologies. Can lead ad hoc data exploration in a wide variety of data serialisation and storage formats, from across the business, for data consumers.
  • You are intellectually curious and proactively explore areas of innovation.
  • You understand and can help teams apply a range of techniques to analyse data and provide insight. You are proactive and can present compelling findings that inform wider decisions.
