Job description

Are you an experienced Project Delivery professional who is looking for a for an exciting and challenging opportunity?

Do you have the ability to manage fast pace delivery of innovation projects, created from a research idea through to completion?

Are you able to combine personal resilience and energy with an analytical curiosity to operate in a fast paced, changing, and at times ambiguous environment?

Can you leverage "soft power" such as values, vision, charisma, networking and collaboration to exert influence outside of reporting lines?

The Data Science Campus needs talented delivery managers to work with skilled teams of data scientists and developers. You will make sure our innovative data science projects deliver value, often to tight deadlines. You will use a fail fast approach to manage the uncertainty inherent in innovation and research. You will need to be confident in dealing with technical teams and be able to challenge them when appropriate.

We use a blend of project management frameworks, including Agile delivery methods. We are always improving our approach, by exploring the latest tools and techniques for project delivery.

We work with multiple stakeholders, with complex and often competing needs. You will need to understand, manage and communicate these complex needs, to make sure all our activity has impact for our clients and the Campus.


Key Responsibilities

* Manage the delivery of data science projects, from inception to completion.
* Build and maintain teams, ensuring they are motivated, collaborating and working well.
* Identify obstacles and help the team to overcome them.
* Focus the team on what is most important to the delivery of products and services.
* Encourage and facilitate continuous improvement of the delivery team.
* Coach and mentor both team members and others to apply the most appropriate agile and lean tools and techniques. The complexity or breadth of products or teams will vary in this role, depending on the context.


Person Specification

Essentials

* A deep knowledge of and leading on a range of Agile and Lean tools and techniques, with an ability to coach within and outside of their team.
* Experience of leading teams through the full data science product life cycle. You can identify which tools should be used at each stage and manage risks and resolve blockers.
* Ability to communicate effectively across organisational, technical, and political boundaries, understanding the context ensuring the teams work is transparent and progress is understood externally.
* Ability to advocate and communicate what a team does to create trust and authenticity.
* Ability to plan, communicate your plans, assumptions and progress to a range of stakeholders.
* Experience of setting the pace, ensuring teams are working towards delivery commitments, focusing on outcomes/impact.
* Understanding of how to ensure secure management of data.
