Organisational Context

MDR aims to provide the statistical foundations the organisation needs to create statistics for the public good.

It was created to combine the key components that the business needs for transformation into one integrated service. This includes providing new data and methods services for the business transformation programmes and harnessing pockets of expertise across the business, using it to maximise output through collaboration and utilising existing governance.

MDR provides many services across four divisions including Data Acquisition and Operations, Data Architecture, Methodology, and Best Practice and Input.

Job description

The role

The purpose of the HEO posts is to carry out a range of activities eg planning, risk management to support the delivery of the project's objectives. The project support officer enables the smooth running of the project by supporting the project manger through the operation of the project management processes.


Key Responsibilities

Working in:

Implement and maintain appropriate systems to enable effective planning and scheduling.

Establish and maintain project controls, keeping the project manager aware of the project status. Prepare project performance reports, presenting statistics and researching new information.

Ensure organisational tasks are carried out efficiently.

Manage workforce planning, providing information for effective decision making to the Project Manager.

Manage professional relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, and act as lead point of contact for some external parties. Draft and sign-off correspondence.

Manage potential risk areas, working with risk managers and escalating as appropriate

Skills and Experience - The following skills and experience in the context of a high complexity project environment are essential:

Awareness of how Agile and other techniques which can be used to support project delivery

Proven track record of working in a fast paced project/programme or business support environment

Experience of working collaboratively with stakeholders across grade and branch/divisional boundaries

Proven communication skills, both written and oral

Ability to work to tight deadlines and meet fixed targets

You will ideally hold the APM Project Fundamentals Qualification (formerly the APM Introductory Certificate). Those not holding this qualification will be expected to complete it within 6 months of starting in the role.

A working knowledge of Microsoft Office packages is essential.

Experience of using Visio is desirable.
