Job Description


Senior Financial Strategy Manager
6 Months
£350-400 per day. Inside IR35
Remote working for foreseeable. Due to the current circumstances, working from home is required. However, when restrictions are removed or suitably eased, your normal office location will apply.


As Senior Financial Strategy Manager you will be directly responsible for key deliverables and will be directly responsible to the CFO. You will have a strategic support role, working closely with the CFO, Head of Finance ("HoF") and senior managers providing value to RoS through the provision of appropriate financial information to support strategic decision making. You will take a proactive role in reviewing key financial modelling processes including income and business case completion. You will assist the HoF to review and deliver continuous improvement with the support provided by the finance business partnering team to business areas
Provide support to the finance business partnering team with the development and delivery of budget management training and guidance to budget liaison officers and budget holders in business units across RoS

Assist the CFO and HoF with:

  • The development of a medium to long term financial strategy for RoS
  • A review SG and portfolio objectives to ensure we are aligned with National Performance Objectives and Programme for Government
  • Engaging with senior colleagues to extract their views on the RoS strategic direction
  • A review of other RoS strategic policies (e.g. estates strategy, digital strategy, people strategy) so that they can be linked to the financial strategy
  • A review of income streams to ensure pricing is set correctly to recover costs
  • A review business case process and how the finance team can support business areas in drafting them a review and improve the budget setting process (the five-year Corporate Plan, spending reviews and quarterly budget reviews)


Essential Skills

  • Qualified CCAB/CIMA accountant
  • Track record of delivery in a senior finance role
  • Excellent project management and organisational skills
  • A good understanding of strategic issues when developing medium to long term planning
  • Extensive experience in finance business partnering, budget preparation, monitoring and forecasting
  • Experience in implementing change and improvements in finance teams
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and confidence in dealing with a range of people at all levels
  • Excellent financial modelling skills


Desirable Skills

  • Public sector accounting and budgeting experience would be advantageous
  • Knowledge of efinancials based accounting system
