An exciting opportunity has arisen to join my client's Infrastructure team working as part of the SQL DBA support function.
This role will be hybrid home/office based. Travel to the office will be 2 days a week with the remainder of the week at home.
There's a great salary of £55K - £60K on offer plus a generous benefits package.
The Senior SQL Server DBA will be responsible for the implementation, configuration, maintenance, and performance of critical SQL Server systems, to ensure the availability and consistent performance of our corporate applications. This is a "hands-on" position requiring solid technical skills, as well as excellent interpersonal and communication skills. There will be an opportunity to lead a team of two experienced SQL DBAs and work with them to deliver the objectives set by the Group Infrastructure manager.
A broad technical knowledge is required, alongside ITIL experience in Incident, Request, Change, Problem, Release, Event and Knowledge management. You will be forward thinking, customer focussed and self-motivated with the drive to improve all IT services and the user experience.
The key objectives of your role are:
To ensure that the Infrastructure Manager and Head of IT Service Delivery are kept informed of progress and in particular are told of major problems and/or issues in a timely manner
Manage SQL Server databases through multiple product lifecycle environments, from development to mission-critical production systems.
Configure and maintain database servers and processes, including monitoring of system health and performance, to ensure high levels of performance, availability, and security.
Refine and automate regular processes, track issues, and document changes
Provide 24x7 support on a rota basis for critical production systems
Perform scheduled maintenance and support release deployment activities after hours.
Share domain and technical expertise, providing technical mentorship and cross-training to other peers and team members.
To be considered you must have:
5+ years MS SQL Server Administration experience required in SQL Server 2008 / 2014 / 2016
Experience with Performance Tuning and Optimization (PTO), using native monitoring and troubleshooting tools
Experience with backups, restores and recovery models
Knowledge of High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) options for SQL Server
Experience with Windows Server 2008 / 2012 / 2016
Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
