Job Opportunity: Statistical Data Analyst

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work on the development and transition of Admin-Based Population and Migration Estimates from developmental methods to official statistics in production.
  • Employ the Dynamic Population Model (DPM) approach to produce Admin-Based Population Estimates.
  • Focus on the transition of ABPEs from a research phase to a business-as-usual process within Demography.

Essential Skills:

  • 2+ years of experience applying statistical methods to data.
  • Strong understanding of statistical modelling methods.
  • Appreciation of data quality and the ability to contextualise results.
  • Proficiency in R coding (or Python experience and willingness to learn R).

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience/knowledge in demography.
  • Familiarity with Bayesian methods or TMB (Template Model Builder).
  • Knowledge of Python and/or a willingness to learn it.
  • Experience building statistical pipelines.
  • Systems thinking.

Qualifications:

Must meet one of the following requirements:

  • A first or second class honours degree in a numerate subject (2:1 minimum for Assistant Statistician; 2:2 minimum for Statistical Officer) with at least 25% taught statistical content (e.g., Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, Sciences, Business Studies, Psychology, Geography, or similar).
  • A higher degree (e.g., MSc or PhD) in a subject with formal statistical training (e.g., Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, Sciences, Business Studies, Psychology, Geography, or similar).
  • Experience working in a statistical/data science field.
