Job Description


Survey Analyst
£27 per hour. Inside IR35
3 Months (Likely extension)
Remote - UK based.
The government dissemination team falls within the COVID19 Infection Survey Analysis Division and is responsible for collating, visualising, summarising and explaining the findings of the Covid-19 Infection Survey for stakeholders within government. The team produce several outputs a week as a part of a weekly cycle, covering diverse topics such as covid-19 infection rates, antibody prevalence, and ad-hoc analysis on a variety of covid-19 related topics. These outputs are used directly at the highest level of government to inform Covid-19.
Responsibilities:

  • The role in involves working in a fast-paced team helping to deliver covid infection statistics within government. Responsibilities include:
  • Leading on outputs to be disseminated within government, summarising the latest estimates and research based on the survey.
  • Running existing R code as well as developing R code where required for new products or improving existing ones.
  • Developing visualisations and writing commentary summarising complex analysis
  • Visualising and developing ad-hoc analysis on specified topics, working with others in the division to understand and interpret analysis as well as make decisions on the best way to clearly present findings to users.
  • Working at pace to deliver covid infection statistics within agreed, and sometimes tight, timescales.
  • Conducting quality assurance of Management Information in various formats including word documents, slides, reference tables and HTMLs.
  • Developing process guidance and documenting latest updates by utilising shared information logs
  • Attending and contributing to internal and external stakeholder meetings.
  • Line management of at least one staff member, conducting regular check-ins and following and implementing ONS policy where required
  • Chairing at least one team stand-up per week



Essential Skills

  • Minimum 2:1 degree in social science (sociology, psychology, social research), statistics, data science, mathematics or other discipline with a substantial statistical or research content.
  • Clearly demonstrated equivalent experience and knowledge may be acceptable by exception.
  • Ability to lead on outputs and deliver results to tight timescales with conflicting priorities
  • Experience of leading analysis and/or production of technical outputs.
  • Excellent communication skills, with experience of engaging with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, working collaboratively to deliver analytical projects or outputs.
  • Experience of using statistical packages to analyse large datasets - ideally with a basic understanding of working in R
