Most tech skills can be hard to find at the best of times, but sometimes the expertise needed is so rare it can feel like tracking down a unicorn…

That was the case for edge computing company Veea, whose software and test engineering roles would often take 6 months or more to fill. They needed a tech and digital recruitment partner who knew how to unearth engineers with IPv4/IPv6 kernel level development skills and vast experience in the wireless connectivity realm. The skillset is so niche, hardly anybody in the country has the expertise!

Getting a specialist on the case was our first port of call

We assigned a consultant with 8 years experience in the industry who already had a strong network and knowledge of the types of companies using the same technologies Veea do. This was the foundation of the search project.

They created a market map to kick off the search process, detailing all the companies they knew would have the talent Veea required, and long-listed all the people on LinkedIn, job boards and our database with the skills needed. This helped us take a targeted approach to attracting talent using a selection of tools and methodologies to ensure no stone was left unturned.

This resulted in a growing pipeline of permanent and contract tech and digital talent, which in turn facilitated fast hiring for existing and new roles.

  • Headhunting

    Headhunting is one of the many routes we take to sourcing talent, and in this case, it became the most fruitful choice. Most of the candidates we approached weren’t actively seeking jobs (and weren’t on job boards for that reason). We took a tailored approach to candidate outreach, a lot of which were known contacts. This meant we could quickly tap into their ambitions and showcase the opportunity at Veea in a way that would pique their interest.

  • Interview consulting

    To ensure candidates have the right level of capability, VEEA had introduced technical testing halfway through the hiring process. This was a great way to ensure applicants had the skills needed, but it was slowing down the time to hire significantly, which, for contract hires, was resulting in candidates being snatched up by competitors. We helped Veea switch the technical test so that it took place prior to the first interview which reduced the interview period from four to two days, making the time to hire for contracts one week and permanent hires 2-3 weeks.
